10 Awesome Things Actors Have Done While In Costume
8. Robert Englund Donning His Freddy Krueger Make-Up To Help Save A Drive-In Theater
It seems hard to believe that it's been thirty years since Robert Englund first put on the razor-sharp claw in Wes Craven's classic A Nightmare on Elm Street. Englund would go on to play the character through several sequels, a TV show and lastly in the monster face-off that was Freddy vs. Jason in 2003 (which would be the last time he would don the burnt face makeup). A few weeks ago, Englund decided to wear the makeup one final time as he attended a horror convention in Chicago area called Flashback Weekend. The actor is something of a staple of the convention circuit (hes been to Flashback Weekend several times, in fact), but this time he actually showed up as Freddy Krueger, and he did it for a really good cause. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0_PGclWHEA All proceeds from the event went towards the Midway Drive-In Digital Fund; a funding drive to buy the Dixon, IL drive-in a digital projector to go along with its 35mm set up. This will help them present more classic horror film festivals as well as work towards the preservation and operation of the American drive-in experience. A trip to the Midway is apparently like entering a time capsule to the 1950s. So, why does Englund have such a love for old-school drive-ins? Well, apparently he lost his virginity at one. Well, that sounds like a good enough reason to us.
