10 Awesome Trailers The Movie Just Couldn't Live Up To

2. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Kicking off our obsession with Scandinavian thrillers, the adaptations of Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy proved so popular that an American remake was only inevitable. As it lurched into production there was evidence it was going to be more than the usual cheapie cashing in on mainstream audiences fear of subtitles; the cast included Daniel Craig and Christopher Plummer, while at the helm was David Fincher, a director who had come back from the disaster of Alien Cubed to become on the most revered American filmmakers. Many, however, were still sceptical. And then came the trailer. The director can always be depended on for eye-catching, against-the-curve trailers and this one was a knockout. Scored to Trent Reznor's cover of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song, it was a relentless barrage of images in time to the music, showcasing the brilliant cinematography and highlighting just how serious the cast could look. Climaxing with fractured writing and crackling audio proclaiming the film as "The feel bad movie of Christmas" it had a sense of Swedish authenticity to it, but was clearly a uniquely Fincher film. The teaser was so good, in fact, there was no way the film could really match it. An opening title sequence using Reznor's song and riffing on Craig's Bond connection set the movie up well, but the screenplay stuck very close to the source novel and therefore the earlier film, making it a very familiar affair. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVLvMg62RPA
