3. Nothing That Went Before Matters - Terminator Dark Fate
John Connor. The epicentre of The Terminator universe. The one whose existence governs the whole point of the original story. JC’s the reason we have the story to start with. Many fans have been eager to see a bona fide Terminator sequel centred on the future war against the machines, the best fans got was Salvation and the aforementioned Genisys. Now, instead of delivering the goods, the studio went ahead and pumped the future saviour full of lead.
Was John’s knowledge of the future and his father Kyle Reese not a burden on him, one that could up the dramatic value? One would think so yet we’ve never seen any film expand on that much.
Plot leaks from Terminator: Dark Fate revealed the opening scene death of John Connor and fans were less than thrilled. For fans of the franchise, it has proved rather maddening to realise now that Kyle Reese's mission meant nothing. John Connor in turn now means nothing. The fascinating future prophesied in the first two films, John’s ascension to the role of saviour and Kyle Reese's sacrifice were all for nought and mean nothing now.
Furthermore, the hell Sarah Connor endured in the original films was all leading to failure, losing her son to a 100 million dollar loss at the box office.
