9. Holmes & Watson
The Pitch: Step Brothers...but Sherlock Holmes. That's all you need, really.
The Reality: The alarm bells should've been ringing from the moment that Step Brothers director Adam McKay only came aboard as a producer, while writer-director duties were undertaken by Etan Cohen, who previously helmed the rancid Will Ferrell vehicle Get Hard.
With a low-effort script which coasted on witless, old-hat gags and totally flat, sitcom-level direction from Cohen, Holmes & Watson left Ferrell and John C. Reilly stranded without a paddle, and desperately trying to save the film with their obvious - and mostly terrible - attempts at improv.
On paper this could've been an easy smash hit, but without McKay's unique comedic sensibilities, it ended up feeling like an SNL skit that didn't know when to quit.
Holmes & Watson was nominated for six Razzies and won four, for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actor (Reilly) and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel. Oof.
