10 Awful Movies That Embarrassingly Made A Fortune
5. Twilight: New Moon
Worldwide Box Office Gross: $710 million
Much like Fifty Shades of Grey, it has long been uncool to insult the Twilight saga, mainly because even fans of the franchise admit it's execrable. We could have chosen any film from the series, but New Moon is considered the worst of the lot, which is actually quite impressive when you consider its competition.
But as fun as it is to laugh at how bad the franchise is, the fact that the films collectively grossed over $3 billion is no laughing matter. Just think of all the good in the world you could do with money like that!
Many people hate on Twilight without actually giving it a chance, which is unfair, but ultimately they are the intelligent ones. If you were foolish enough to watch any of the films, including New Moon, then you will be all too familiar with its mopey, melodramatic tone, one of the worst protagonist's in cinematic history, wooden acting, exposition as nuanced as a baby elephant running down a flight of stairs, and a remarkable lack of action and thrills for a film involving vampires and werewolves.
The fact that many of the franchise's stars, most notably Robert Pattinson, look back on it with embarrassment should be enough of a warning for anyone that is bizarrely considering giving the films a go.
Thankfully the series is now over (whether for good will remain to be seen), but the Twilight saga will long exist as a dark patch on the history of the box office, once again proving that the masses will watch literally anything just as long as its marketed intelligently and based on popular source material.
