10 Background Actors In Star Wars Who Got Themselves Noticed
5. Samuel L. Jackson's Blatant Stand-In
Extras don't get much more ridiculous than this.
At the end of The Phantom Menace when Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) is elected Chancellor and greets Padme, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson) looks a little different than usual.
For whatever reason, most likely Jackson being unable to attend reshoots, Windu is actually played by a stand-in who, beyond being a Black man in Windu's distinctive robe, doesn't really look much like Jackson at all.
Considering how easy it would've been to disguise Windu amid the crowd or just not even show him on-screen at all, it's a bizarre move, and one that's all the more noticeable on recent higher-resolution releases of the movie.
Though the film's credits do list stand-ins for stars Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, and Liam Neeson, no such stand-in is listed for Jackson, strangely.
