The Predator is undoubtedly one of the most terrifying creatures to ever hit a movie screen. But, this almost wasn’t so. Do a quick search for early versions of the Predator's creature design and you’ll be underwhelmed.

The original creature was far less intimidating than the final product. So, Stan Winston was hired to fix the design after his successful work on The Terminator.

Winston created his otherworldly design after spotting a painting of a Rastafarian warrior in producer Joel Silver’s office.

“I saw that and I thought it was a great starting concept for the Predator. I started drawing and redesigning this alien character with quills that in silhouette would look like dreadlocks.”

Who knew dreadlocks could be so terrifying?
