10 Ballsy Movies That Kill Off A Major Star In The First Act
3. Godzilla (Bryan Cranston)
Poor Bryan Cranston. The man spent the majority of his career wallowing in the C-list, doomed to exist only as the faintly remembered dad from Malcolm in the Middle. He, like television offspring, would not enjoy a rich and lengthy run of success.
And then something amazing happened. Breaking Bad became a worldwide cultural phenomenon, on par with the greatest television series of all time. Cranston had reached the top of the mountain. And Walter White would always be remembered.
Then, Godzilla happens. In his first major film after Breaking Bad went off the air, Cranston gets snuffed out just as the second act gets rolling. This wasn't just an unfortunate, premature end for his character, but for his post-television career as well. Trumbo aside, Cranston hasn't exactly been lighting up the big screen since then.
The actor was more than a little displeased to find out that his character was going away so soon, calling his swift demise "a mistake" and "a waste."
This felt like a particularly harsh bait-and-switch by the studio, who'd showcased Cranston significantly in the trailers, leading audiences to believe that he would act as our hero and de facto tour guide through their monster movie.
