10 Banned Horror Movies That Shocked The World

9. Cannibal Holocaust

Of course, no banned horror movie list would be complete without a nod towards Cannibal Holocaust, one of the founding fathers of the found footage genre (if you wanted a tongue twister with your entry, then here it is) and the most infamous of the banned movie showreel.

The film, about a bunch of filmmakers that go to the Amazon to find their missing friends, is supposedly a 'true story', something which was figuratively eaten up by audiences who weren't familiar with handheld filming at the time, meaning director Ruggero Deodato actually got arrested for dropping this nasty little movie on the world until he could prove it was fake.

Whilst Deodato was released after plenty of questioning directed at him, his cast, his crew, and the film didn't get the same privileges. Since it meshes very real animal abuse with very fake snuff influences, Cannibal Holocaust was banned in over 7 different countries for its obscene content - garnering it a reputation that still precedes it to this day. With a title like that though, that hardly seems avoidable.
