10 Baseball Movies That Knocked It Out Of The Park

2. Bull Durham

Written by an actual minor league player, Bull Durham contains many terrific details about real life in a minor league clubhouse. Kevin Costner (oh, him again) plays Crash Davis, an aging catcher for a minor league team who is assigned to help groom a rising-but-insane pitcher named "Nuke" LaLoosh (Tim Robbins) for the big leagues.

While largely a romantic comedy, Bull Durham successfully explores this limbo world of minor league baseball, where some are talented enough to rise while others remain stuck forever. Costner is perfect as the aging catcher, exhibiting a perfect sense of world-weariness and wisdom. He is paired brilliantly with Susan Sarandon, who plays a sexy-but-aging team groupie.

The film brilliantly looks at the eccentricities of baseball players without all of the nonsensical stuff featured in Major League.
