10 Behind The Scenes Reasons For Harry Potter Character Traits

8. Snape Always Dresses The Same

In recent years, a number of viral articles have noted that Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) appears to be the only major character throughout the Harry Potter franchise to never once change his clothes.

Snape is of course inseparably associated with the flowing black robes he's always seen wearing, which in the books are said to make him resemble "an overgrown bat."

Though every other major Potter character got at least a costume change or two throughout the series, costume designer Jany Temime - who worked on every Potter film from Prisoner of Azkaban onwards - was steadfast that Snape never change. In a 2017 interview, she said:

"I never changed Professor Snape... I used the Professor Snape costume and I remade it. I made another cape. I always kept Professor Snape [as he was], because I thought it was a great costume. Because, it was perfect. When something is perfect you cannot change it. Why should you change it? It was him. And he never changes, Professor Snape. He's the sort of guy who goes to bed in his costume [laughs]. Bless him, Alan Rickman."

There you have it - Snape always dresses the same because why mess with perfection? And also, because it's the most Snape thing in the world to never even entertain the notion of a costume change. Brilliant.
