Bong Joon-ho's (The Host) sci-fi thriller realises the notion of class warfare in a hyper-literal way as the rich and poor slug it out on the titular gigantic train that contains the world's sole survivors of a weather experiment gone awry.

Chris Evans is superb as revolution leader Curtis Everett, though it's Tilda Swinton who runs away with the movie as Minister Mason, the Snowpiercer's second-in-command. Swinton, ever the chameleon (as she proved yet again in Doctor Strange), transforms herself into a grotesque, Thatcher-esque gate-keeper whose actions throughout are absolutely unforgettable.

It has no pretensions to subtlety whatsoever, but for those prepared to take this grimly visceral ride, it's an experience quite unlike anything else out there.
