7. The Beach (2000)

Danny Boyle's Leonardo DiCaprio-starring psychological thriller is basically an ambitious failure, an intriguing if also sloppy effort that fails to capture the chilling essence of Alex Garland's novel.

Tilda Swinton plays Sal, the leader of the beach community who memorably ends up shagging DiCaprio when they head off on a supply run together. She doesn't embarrass herself at all, and with Leo stealing away almost all of the movie's attention and publicity, she basically got away with this one Scot-free.

It's at least a lot more interesting in its failure than most (if not all) of the movies on this list, but still ultimately a bad movie.
