6. Marvel Paid Critics To Trash The Film - Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Even though Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice smashed its way to a not too shabby $873.3 million box office profit and currently ranks as the year’s sixth highest grossing film, critically it was a bomb. Scoring a measly 26% Rotten Tomatoes rating, many critics agreed that the film was too dark and serious in tone, full of plot holes and basically an incoherent mess. It’s likely that many general moviegoers felt the same way too – Batman V Superman isn’t without its fair share of problems, to be honest – but a portion of die-hard fans who thought the movie was brilliant disagreed with the critics’ consensus and concluded that something fishy was afoot.

They believe that Marvel, DC’s main rival, had been paying film critics to give Batman V Superman deliberately negative reviews to make the film flop as part of an evil conspiracy theory to bring down DC. They point out that some middling Marvel films that had just as many issues at Batman V Superman, like Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron, received largely positive reviews while Snyder’s film got trashed. Critics have naturally denied being part of any Marvel bribery and considering that the rivalry between Marvel and DC is largely civil – Marvel even refers to their rival as ‘Distinguished Competition’ – it seems unlikely that there’s some conspiracy going on. Maybe Batman V Superman just wasn’t that great after all?
