Has Scream been talked about to death by now? Absolutely. Is the death of Scream's Steve Orth one of the all-time great "Oh sh*t, he's dead and I'm next" moments of horror? Absolutely.

It's tough to put together a list based around such moments and not include the opening act death of Kevin Patrick Walls's Orth and the subsequent reaction of Drew Barrymore's Casey Becker.

Of course, Wes Craven's genre-changing Scream opens with a 'wrong number' phone call turning into something mildly flirtatious, then turning into something chillingly sinister.

After having her own life threatened and then ending the call, Casey is instantly called back and has it revealed by this unknown caller that her boyfriend Steve is tied up on her patio. Once Casey incorrectly identifies Jason Voorhees as the killer of the original Friday the 13th, it's game over for Steve - as Casey witnesses her beau brutally murdered in front of her eyes.

It's here that Barrymore's character truly realises the intention of the person on the other end of the phone, and it's here that she realises that she's next in line to be butchered by a villain(s) we'd soon come to know as Ghostface.
