10 Best 90s Teen Horror Movies You Need To Watch

4. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

Urban Legend
New Line Cimena

This, the sixth film in the Nightmare on Elm Street series, often gets a bad rap as the worst of the Elm Street sequels. That's mostly because it is the worst of the Elm Street sequels, but when the quality is as high elsewhere as Freddy's Revenge and Dream Warriors, that's almost inevitable. Taken on its own merits, and considering how bad it could have been (see also: the horrendous 2010 reboot), The Final Nightmare is a lot of fun.

Robert Englund is clearly having a hoot playing Freddy at his most ridiculous; terrorising a gang of teenagers at a home for troubled youths. Here, he tracks down his long-lost daughter, attempting to recruit her to the cause of Krueger.

By far the silliest of the Elm Street movies, Freddy's Dead doesn't take itself particularly seriously, but it's great fun. And, daft as it gets, his treatment of deaf Carlos remains one of Freddy's cruelest kills.

Packed full of cameos (Alice Cooper as Freddy's abusive foster dad! Johnny Depp in the infamous 'your brain on drugs' sequence!) and featuring some brilliantly creative nightmare sequences, it's a charming entry into the long-running series.
