10 Best Actors Working Today

3. Lupita Nyong'o

Joker Joaquin Phoenix
Blumhouse

A relative newcomer on the cinema stage, Lupita Nyong'o stormed her way onto the scene back in 2012 in 12 Years A Slave with her staggering debut performance as slave Patsey.

Ever since that breath-taking role, Nyong'o's career has continued to blossom to new heights. In the past few years alone, she's appeared in two of the biggest blockbuster franchises to hit our screens: Star Wars (Maz Kanata) and Marvel's superhero franchise (Black Panther's Nakia). And her talent continues to outdo itself today.

Last year, Nyong'o delighted audiences with her hysterical outing in zombie-comedy gem Little Monsters. Playing a cheery musician protecting a group of children from a zombie outbreak, her energy and vivacious onscreen presence is a pleasure to watch from start to finish.

However, even this colourfully (re)animated performance couldn't compare to her starring role in Jordan Peele's razor-sharp horror Us. In a duel role as traumatised mother Adelaide and her scissor-wielding doppelganger Red, Nyong'o all but single-handedly carried the flick on her own shoulders with vastly contrasting performances.

All it takes is to watch her haunting monologue to see just how chillingly effective she was.

Next up, we can expect to see Nyong'o in female-fronted spy thriller 365 next yer.
