Barry Levinson's elaborate satire didn't burn a hole in the box office, but Toys deserves its reputation as a warped curio. Despite the fact the late Robin Williams isn't front and centre in the action as audiences had become accustomed to, it still contains some great festive moments.

What other holiday season movie features a rampaging sea monster, or LL Cool J disguised as a settee? It's schmaltzy but heartfelt, everything you'd expect from a perfect Christmas story. The sugary, pop-based soundtrack drenches you in syrup from the start, but this is diffused by the striking anti-war message and strong performances from an eclectic cast, from Cool J to Joan Cusack. Not forgetting Michael Gambon as the villain of course...
