10 Best (And Worst) Comic Book Superheroes On The Big Screen
9. Scott Pilgrim - Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
I liked this movie. An air of comedic deadpan, with a video game reality that really seemed to be cutting edge. And with one or two exceptions, the evil exes had me rolling in my seat every second they took the screen. But then I had to look at Scott Pilgrim. I know we are in the era of the flawed hero, but Cera's character had everyone in the room wondering exactly why we give a damn about this idiot. "Wait, you're dating a seventeen-year-old? Isn't that illegal?" "Now you're cheating on her with someone even more deadpan than a stone?" "Why do these girls even care if you get kicked into the next century?" Pilgrim never inspired anything more than the gag reflex.
8. Daredevil - Daredevil
So much potential, just shot down the drain. Spider-Man and X-Men had just premiered to popular acclaim. This was a chance for Marvel to get down to the nitty-gritty of street crime. Instead, Ben Affleck gave us the beginnings of what not to do with tortured hero. His inner turmoil boiled down to "I'm blind," and "I'm a superhero." There was nothing beyond the spins and amazing feats done by special effects. Did Daredevil have some okay lines? Yes, but he gave nothing to the genre more than the costume.
