10 Best Animated Film Musical Numbers

8. Up There €“ South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut (Comedy Central Films) http://youtu.be/X13Kb_DktHg This number is practically admissible evidence of Matt Stone and Trey Parker€™s genius. With Up There, in less than two minutes, they make you care on a deep human level about Satan. That€™s right; they make you care about Satan. Sub-textually there are powerful, resonating sentiments at play in Up There. Even though to you and I the idea that Satan might harbour secret desires to experience all the beauty in our world seems ridiculous, the character of Satan presented here in this stricken lament doesn€™t think so. Despite the silliness of the textual content, Up There feels like a sincere expression of hope from a complex, conflicted character with a genuine desire to change but an inability to escape from his own metaphorical (and literal) hell. And since humans a species are generally empathic beings it€™s all but impossible not to get behind him, connotations of evil or no.
