The Lie was the premiere instalment in the horror anthology series Welcome to Blumhouse, a series of four Blumhouse produced movies that made their debut on Amazon Prime Video. As the title suggests, some truths are being withheld here and no bigger than the one revealed in the movie's shocking climax.

Kayla, played by Joey King, falls out with her friend Brittany and during a pit stop the two head into the snow-covered woods and don't return following an argument. Jay, her father, heads after the pair to discover that Kayla has pushed her friend into the river below.

Kayla and both her mum and dad decide to hide the truth about what happened and the remainder of the movie is spent trying to keep that secret hidden. Even from Brittany’s suspicious father who is searching for his daughter. He gets killed by Kayla’s mum and her parents clean up the mess just as Brittany walks in, back from the dead.

Incredibly the "lie" this entire time has been Kayla, lying for her friend, who was simply off spending time with her boyfriend. Her reappearance is particularly jarring because it’s so unexpected. And it’s the laid-back and quite detached way in which she suddenly just pops in after all the lies as if nothing has happened.
