10 Best Back From The Dead Moments In Horror Movies

3. One Ghost Too Many - 13 Ghosts (2001)

The Lazarus Effect
Warner Bros.

The 2001 remake of supernatural chiller Thirteen Ghosts was the second horror outing for the newly founded horror studio, Dark Castle. Based on an original movie from legendary gimmick-horror filmmaker William Castle this redo starred Tony Shalhoub, Matthew Lillard, and F. Murray Abraham.

Shaloub starred as Arthur, a family man who lost his wife in a fire several years before. He inherits a unique shape-shifting house from his recently deceased ghost-hunting uncle Cyrus Kriticos made entirely of glass - only to discover that the house is imprisoning twelve very angry ghosts inside which unsuspectingly get released when the family arrives.

However, all is not as it seems, when Arthur’s late uncle appears in the house. First assumed to be a ghost himself he is very much alive as it is revealed that he faked his death to lure Arthur to the house and sacrifice him to become the thirteenth ghost. A daft twist like this was the bread and butter of the early Dark Castle produced movies, following in the footsteps of the likes of Ghost Ship, Gothika, and House of Wax.
