10 Best Buddy Cop Movies Of All Time
1. Lethal Weapon
If you don’t care for any of the others, at least take the time to watch Lethal Weapon. With the perfect team of Mel Gibson as the wildly unbalanced Riggs and Danny Glover as tired veteran cop Murtaugh, this film set the standard for all buddy cop movies ever.
Although 48 Hrs might be the first buddy cop movie, this one is easily the most identifiable. Later movies would tend to lean towards over the top stunt gimmicks and dramatic scenes to keep the audience interested but none of that can ever compare to Lethal Weapon. You cannot forget how dark and depressed Riggs is and the need you had for Riggs and Murtaugh to take down the slightly insane Joshua. With the shadow of the Vietnam War still fresh in the picture, this movie is darker than most but just as entertaining.
With Richard Donner directing and Gary Busey playing the villain, Lethal Weapon might have the iconic line ‘I’m getting too old for this s**t’ but it never actually gets old itself.
