10 Best Buddy Cop Movies Of All Time

9. The Other Guys

21 Jump Street
Columbia Pictures

Whilst most buddy cops have at least some shared ground, Will Ferrell’s sedate and orderly Allen Gamble is the complete opposite to Mark Wahlberg’s 'peacock' Terry Holtz. When New York’s action hero detectives - briefly played by Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson - die, everyone is determined to be the next big pair. Somehow ending up caught in a web of multi-million dollar scams and swindles, Holtz and Gamble end up on the outside of the law.

Director Adam McKay does a fantastic job of keeping events semi-realistic and hilarious throughout. Ferrell and Wahlberg have a great chemistry against one another which only makes their characters that much better as they keep ongoing gags - likes Dirty Mike and the Boys - funny long after they should be tired jokes you want to forget. It's the blend of realistic police work - including the otherwise dull activity of scaffolding violations which uncovered the criminal activities - and action scenes which put The Other Guys on the map.
