10 Best Buddy Cop Movies Of All Time
6. The Rock
Transformers might not have been his finest work but Michael Bay did a wonderful job directing The Rock. Set mainly on abandoned Alcatraz Island, The Rock stars Nicholas Cage as a geeky biochemical weapons expert and softly spoken Sean Connery as the only man to ever escape from the prison.
Despite their opposing viewpoints on their mission - Cage being the bumbling brains and Connery the reluctant prisoner - their peculiar brand of odd-couple comedy makes for some brilliant viewing. Somehow, it gets away with the same elements of intellect-and-officer which made Die Hard With A Vengeance so good whilst mixing in the thrill of a war movie as a rogue army squad point bio-weapons at San Francisco.
Whilst most buddy cop movies have an element of comedy throughout, The Rock is a hardened thriller with possibly the funniest moment being Cage shouting about Zeus' butthole. Although not crucial to the plot, the secrets Connery's character stole add a delightful conspiracy tone at times.
