10 Best Carl Reiner Films

3. All Of Me

Ocean's Eleven Carl Reiner Brad Pitt
Universal Pictures

Reiner's final film with Martin fully put on display the actor's physical ability, to the point where it's not unreasonable to call his performance Oscar-worthy. Taken from an unpublished novel, All of Me is their first pairing not entirely set in a heightened reality, with unhappy lawyer Roger Cobb (Martin) having half of his body taken over by the soul of a wealthy eccentric (Lily Tomlin).

Both halves of Martin are thankfully comic legends, with Tomlin having proven herself with years of specials, SNL hosting gigs and film roles. And the film is at its best when they're literally on opposite sides of an issue, with his body trying to stop one thing and do another.

Reiner doesn't just bank on the performance, however. A great supporting turn from Richard Libertini as a shaman with severe culture shock highlights much of the film's latter half.

It's a nice note to end a four-film partnership, with Martin finally playing the straight man.

There was talk at Dreamworks in 2012 of a remake, and later plans to adapt the property into a series, but replicating the chemistry between the two leads and the filmmaker just isn't feasible.
