10 Best Coming-Of-Age Movies Of The Decade
9. The Edge Of Seventeen (2016)
The Edge of Seventeen isn’t the most original coming-of-age film, but it deserves a place on this list because of its flawless execution.
The film follows Nadine Franklin (played by Hailee Steinfeld) in her third year of high school as she struggles to come to terms with the fact her best friend is dating her older brother.
Though Steinfeld is brilliant throughout, her best scenes are those with Woody Harrelson, who plays a hilarious school teacher whose advice for Nadine is loaded with sarcasm and wit.
In addition to the humour, Kelly Fremon Craig’s screenplay also carries plenty of emotional punch, particularly in regard to the overall message of the movie.
Despite not pushing any boundaries, The Edge of Seventeen is so well made fans of the genre will love every second of it.
