10 Best Conspiracy Movies Ever Made

1. They Live

If you had to decide on the ultimate conspiracy theory of all time, you'd be hard pushed to find one more crazy and outlandish as the theory that humanity is secretly controlled by aliens. Popularized by David Icke, it has become an enduring conspiracy theory which has filtered well and truly into the popular imagination. Well before Icke's theories entered the public discourse as a matter of ridicule, John Carpenter had already explored the idea thoroughly in his conspiracy/sci-fi classic, They Live. Starring Roddy Piper and Keith David, it's become something of an iconic conspiracy movie, from the sunglasses which reveal aliens hiding inside human bodies to the secret messages in corporate billboards instructing us to "Obey" and "Consume". With the sunglasses functioning as a latter day version of the red pill in The Matrix, They Live is considered by many to have been way ahead of its time, and it's fitting that its popularity has only increased in recent years. As well as being a thoroughly entertaining thriller and featuring one of the most lengthy, silly fight scenes in movie history, it's also a wonderfully subversive satire on inequality and the nature of subliminal persuasion.
