10 Best Deaths In Western Movies

2. Butch And Sundance - Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid

George Roy Hill's comedy/drama about the whimsical exploits of two legendary outlaws boasts one of the most iconic end stills in movie history.

Butch and Sundance find themselves at a crossroads at the turn of the century. After a series of increasingly accident prone train robberies, the charismatic pair decide to turn over a new leaf. Sadly, fate has other plans for the duo when they fall victim to bandits (talk about getting the shoe on the other foot). Dispirited, we witness a sad and disappointing return to a life of crime which ends (as these things so often do) in tragedy.

Snitched on for stealing a payroll and the mules carrying it, Butch and Sundance come under fire from the local police. With guns blazing and bullets tearing them apart, they take cover and humorously discuss escape plans they both know will never happen. Accepting of their fates, they charge out into a hail of bullets.

Instead of depicting their grisly deaths, Hill freeze frames their last charge, immortalising their final moments. It's an iconic moment in cinema, one bursting with emotional power.
