10 Best Directors That Have Never Won An Oscar
4. David Fincher
David Fincher has had a fairly strange career.
He started off directing music videos before his first major feature, Alien 3, was met with fairly scathing reviews. Almost out of a job before he’d even started, he managed to get a foothold back with Seven (often stylised as Se7en), and then with Fight Club he established his talent.
Fight Club is now recognised as one of the greatest movies of all time, but was a bit of a flop when it first released. It also earned a single Oscar nomination, for Sound Effects Editing.
Se7en, while not thought of in as high a regard as Fight Club and now having the added complication of Kevin Spacey starring, was also largely ignored by the Academy. It too scored a single nomination in a similar category: Best Film Editing.
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and The Social Nerwork though, often thought of as his weaker, less focussed movies, both saw him nominated for Best Director. Neither film deserved to win, in truth, but had he got his hands on it there would have been some justice for Fight Club in particular being snubbed.
