3. Tickled (2016)

Tickled Documentary

When journalist David Ferrier stumbles upon an online video about competitive endurance tickling, he thinks he’s found the basis for a quirky story to cover. However, the more he uncovers about this odd subculture, the stranger and more terrifying his investigation becomes as he discovers more about the shady organisation behind the videos.

Blackmail, intimidation, and shocking revelations are all part of the experience of this larger-than-life tale. However, Tickled is a film with twists so bonkers that divulging any specifics about what comes next would be doing a disservice to the insane odyssey this documentary takes viewers on.

There are plenty of documentaries out there which shine a light on the weirder parts of life, but none come close to the sheer unbelievability of co-director’s Ferrier and Dylan Reeve’s project. Without any exaggeration, Tickled is one of those films that needs to be seen to be believed.

And as if to cement this film’s legendary status, Tickled received some controversy and backlash from the tickling community during its festival run that was just as strange as anything from the film. This chapter of the film has been chronicled in short follow-up The Tickle King.
