10 Best Dog Movies
3. Lady & The Tramp (1955)
What makes Lady & The Tramp such a stand-out is the careful detail in the dog characters. The animators brought in several different breeds and learned to draw their expressions and movements in order to come across as realistically and vividly as possible. From Lady the American Cocker Spaniel to Jock the Scottish Terrier, every single pet looks authentic and adorable. Put these delightful characters against some lovely backdrops, and we are given one of the most beautiful movies ever.
The story of Lady & The Tramp is told through the perspective of dogs. Very rarely do we see human faces, nor do we hear their real names - Lady takes her owner’s pet names for each other, Jim Dear and Darling, as their actual names. The romance is between an uptown Cocker Spaniel and a streetwise Mutt, two animals of completely opposite backgrounds. The pivotal moment is when the titular characters share a plate of spaghetti and meatballs whilst being serenaded and accidentally share a kiss – Disney never got more romantic than this.
Just don’t bother with the 2019 live-action adaptation.
