8. War Of The Worlds' Taken Reference

Despite his reluctance to stuff too many references to his own work in Ready Player One, Spielberg isn't against the idea entirely, as he proved with his adaptation of War Of The Worlds.

In that film, when Tom Cruise's Ray and Rachel are held prisoners by the tripod, the alien language visible on the hull, behind the cage they're suspended in is actually taken from another Spielberg project.

The same language is also featured in the mini-series Taken (no not that one), which Spielberg executive produced in 2002 (and which also starred Dakota Fanning like War Of The Worlds), a few years before he made the movie.
