10 Best Film Remakes Of All Time

9. A Star Is Born (2018)

Dawn Of The Dead 2004
Warner Bros.

The modern version of A Star Is Born with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper is actually the fourth time this movie has been made, and it’s not hard to see why. The Romeo and Juliet-esque story is timeless, but the music and setting around it is not.

The 1937 original is a typical Golden Age musical with a dark ending, while in 1954 the movie mocked the Golden Age of Hollywood. It was then remade in 1976 with a new rock and roll soundtrack and setting. In 2013, Bollywood picked up the story and made Aashiqui 2, before the 2018 film began production in 2016.

All of the films have been good in their own ways, but the newest film may be the best. Lady Gaga is absolutely stunning, and her singing in the movie is outstanding. Bradley Cooper not only gives a great performance but also directs the film fantastically, and there’s even a little commentary about the modern pop music industry - keeping the story relevant, while the emotional core is as powerful as ever.

It’s a dead cert for Oscar nominations early next year.
