10 Best Gangster Movies (Not Made By Martin Scorsese)
10. The Godfather
We all know the film, we all love it, and almost everyone cites it as not only one of the greatest films ever made, but the greatest gangster film ever made. Most films with such bold labels are scrutinized to no end to determine whether they're worthy of such acclaim and praise, but The Godfather need not worry about such things - if you can find anyone who says The Godfather is rubbish, they're either extremely ignorant of what makes a good film, or very, very high on a drug that makes you wrong about everything. Francis Ford Coppola spared no expense when creating The Godfather, and the attention to detail shows in almost every scene of the film. From the little things like Marlon Brando wearing special braces in his lower jaw to give Vito Corleone his iconic look and sound to the stellar performances of Al Pacino and James Caan as the beloved sons of the Don, The Godfather is as memorable for its cast as it is for the authentic world in which they live. There's nothing more important than family for the Italian American Mob, and no other film other than maybe Scorsese's Goodfellas has exemplified that on screen as well as The Godfather. A true classic.
