10 Best Gangster Movies (Not Made By Martin Scorsese)

8. The Godfather Part II

Before you cry "cheat, this should just be combined with the first Godfather as one entry!" - it most definitely shouldn't. While film sequels and trilogies can usually be lumped together and referred to as one single entity, The Godfather Part II is so hugely different to its predecessor that it would be an injustice to not give each film its own entry. There is still disparity today in regards to which film is considered the better between the two (just pretend Part III doesn't exist), but we're sure that everyone's in agreement when we say that both are monumental pieces of cinema in regards to the best films ever made. Al Pacino took center stage in Part II, consolidating his role as Don of the Corleone crime family. His background of initially not wanting to be involved with his family's roots in crime eventually gave way to the ruthless, uncompromising gangster that he becomes in Part II. With the film being spliced together with an origin story of how a young Vito Corleone came to power (played by De Niro), the film, again, made legends out of its stars, bolstering the reputations of the two actors as the real godfathers of the gangster movie genre.
