10 Best Gangster Movies (Not Made By Martin Scorsese)
4. Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction was Tarantino's immediate follow-up to Reservoir Dogs, and it proved that the director was not only a one-hit wonder, but an emerging giant in cinema that wasn't afraid to try something different. Aside from showing audiences the kind of film he could make with an increased budget and reputation over Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino also created his most critically acclaimed film to date - a film that dealt with abhorrent individuals, drug addicts, gangsters, cheats, liars and almost every other bad crime and personality trait you can think of. Continuing to use the fragmented narrative structure that he first used in Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino crafted a world that was concerned with one thing above all else. Getting the audience into the minds of its characters. Extended and eclectic dialogue scenes exist to reveal the mindsets, motivations and reasoning behind the chracters' actions and behavior, providing truck-loads of character development to explain why these people are like they are. Just like most of Tarantino's films since, Pulp Fiction also contains countless pop culture references, stylised violence and memorable characters. Many would argue it's still Tarantino's best film to date, and it would be hard disagree.
