9. Snape Was The Half-Blood Prince – The Half-Blood Prince
The identity of the Half-Blood Prince was kept secret until the very end of the penultimate Harry Potter story.
Prior to this revelation, the Half-Blood Prince was a very ambiguous character. He certainly had plenty of talent and helped Harry continuously during class, which in turn made the Prince somewhat likeable.
However, he also had a knack for harmful and often dark magic. Indeed, Harry’s use of the Sectumsempra Curse against Malfoy demonstrated that the Half-Blood Prince was as dangerous as he was helpful.
Given that Snape informed Harry that he was the Half-Blood Prince only minutes after murdering Dumbledore, the weight of such information was particularly heavy for Harry to bear.
Such a twist was also very difficult to predict. Beyond the obvious assumption that the Prince was likely to be a half-blood wizard, there were very few clues as to who he truly was, making the ultimate reveal that much more impactful.
