7. Dani - Oddity
Unlike most entries on this list, Oddity's opening kill isn't outwardly graphic in the slightest, but that doesn't make it any less unnerving to behold.
The film begins with the murder of psychiatrist Ted's (Gwilym Lee) wife Dani (Carolyn Bracken), who is renovating their new home when she's attacked by a masked assailant in the middle of the night.
While the moments leading up to Dani's death are extremely tense, director Damian McCarthy actually decides to spare us the grisly particulars of her end, instead letting us imagine it for ourselves, which is so much worse.
As the killer approaches Dani with a large hammer in tow, McCarthy match-cuts to Dani's tent now covered in blood while the faint silhouette of her bludgeoned corpse is barely visible. The jarring cut is brilliantly effective in conveying how savagely Dani was killed, and it only becomes more horrifying later on once we learn precisely who was behind it.
