10 Best Horror Movie Moments Of 2024

In a Violent Nature subverts the slasher subgenre by looking at the traditional "killer chases teens through the forest" formula through the lens of the antagonist. For most of the runtime, the action follows a recently resurrected maniac called Johnny, who will stop at nothing to retrieve his stolen locket.

The picture may have some major pacing issues, but it's impossible to fault the kills. Subtle green-screen and micro-cuts are inserted while Johnny hacks off limbs and crushes heads, making these deaths look disturbingly authentic. However, it's how Aurora kicks the bucket that's sure to stick with audiences. 

While she's practicing yoga, Johnny rams his chained hook through Aurora's back, leaving her mortally wounded. Rather than leaving it at that, the mute killer punches his hand through until it comes out of her abdomen. Johnny then slams the hook into Aurora's skull before tugging on the chain, pushing her head through her stomach.

As visceral as this whole sequence is, probably the most squeamish moment is a single shot of Aurora's vertebrae popping through her neck as her head collapses.

Saying Aurora suffered a savage death doesn't do it justice. Her execution is so imaginatively gross, it feels more at home in Mortal Kombat than a slasher.
