This is one woman who takes being a doting mother to the extreme. Although the Friday the 13th empire was built by the hockey mask wearing psycho Jason, it was his mama, Mrs. Voorhees, who started it all. Many women have portrayed Mrs. Voorhees; however, it is Betsy Palmer who truly epitomizes the mad mother. Not only are audiences surprised to find out that the camp killer is a dead boy's mother, but the fact that she's a middle-aged woman who wearing a cable-knit sweater is even harder to grasp. And Palmer ups the ante by being utterly terrifying. Horror fans will always remember the knife wielding Mrs. Voorhees yelling, in a tiny, childlike voice, "Kill her, mommy!"
