10 Best Horror Movie Villains With Absolutely No Motive

7. The Xenomorph - Alien (1979)

Ever since it (literally) burst onto screens in Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic, the Xenomorph from the Alien franchise has become one of the most iconic, recognisable, and fearsome creatures in cinema history.

With its distinctive silhouette, there’s no mistaking a Xenomorph when we see one. And when one was inadvertently brought onboard the Nostromo, the crew learned just how dire their situation was when the creature picked them off one by one.

Unlike conventional movie killers, movie monsters aren’t required to have any justification for why they turn the human protagonists into lunch. In fact, to do so would defeat their very point. Movie monsters are a reminder that humans are essentially meat on legs and that we’re probably not at the top of the galaxy’s food chain.

The Xenomorph is just doing what it was born to do. It has no real reason or need to slaughter the Nostromo’s crew; it just does.

They're perfect organisms designed to be effective killing machines. They’re lightening fast, stealthy, and their blood is literally acid. Even as the Alien franchise continued, Xenomorphs never lost their threat factor.

Unless you’re Ellen Ripley, you’re unlikely to survive an encounter with these virtually unstoppable beasts.
