The second part of Insidious wastes no time in getting under way and starts directly at the point of the end of the last film. Part two has a very complex plot which answers a lot of the questions from the first film and brings the ties together. It is satisfyingly spooky and entertaining ride with the scary Bride in Black figure haunting the family this time. Josh is possessed by Parker Crane, a man who killed himself by jumping out of a hospital window. As the possession of Josh grows more sinister, he has to go with help from his son Dalton into the Further where he witnesses scenes of child abuse on the young Parker by his mother. In eerie scenes, Josh has to do battle with Mrs Parker but Crane comes up behind her and whacks her with a wooden rocking horse in the head. Everyone comes back to real life and inhabit themselves. But is this truly the end of the supernatural woes that plague the Lamberts? Directed by James Wan, Insidious Chapter 2 should please fans of the original as it elaborates on the nature of The Further and how the protagonists can be possessed. It also gives more background to the characters. The scary scenes are not as subtle as in the first film, but they still work. As far as sequels to horror films go, Insidious Chapter 2 can be viewed as a successful attempt to expound on the creepiness of the original. It largely works due to expanding the first film's themes and building upon them. There is nothing terribly original about Chapter 2 but it is a good solid horror film.
My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
