Like so many other industries and elements of everyday life, the movie business has clearly been hit hard in 2020.

With cinemas spending so much of the year either completely closed or with restricted access, plentiful big-budget pictures have been faced with the dilemma of going straight to Digital and making less money than expected, or delaying a silver screen release until next year in the hope of being able to recoup a film's budget. But also in 2020, some have managed to turn the negatives of this year into a positive.

Case in point: Host.

Forced to approach filmmaking very differently once the year went to the dogs, director Rob Savage and fellow writers Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd decided to make the most of the Zoom craze that continues to take over 2020. And by 'making the most' of this situation, that meant filming a terrifying, haunting horror movie using this video platform.

Granted, this isn't the first time that the joys of the internet and video calling programmes have been utilised for a horror picture - with The Den and Unfriended two of the earlier offerings to take this approach - but Host far and away takes this concept to a whole other level of quality as it tells its tale of a p*ssed-off spirit causing chaos for a bunch of friends reduced to video chats during lockdown.
