10 Best Horror Movies Set On Different Planets

1. The Planet (2006)

Ghosts of Mars Natasha Henstridge
Stirton Productions

Mark Stirton's little known sci-fi horror The Planet, about a crew of shipwrecked mercenaries, is not to be confused with the Swedish climate change documentary The Planet, which was also released in 2006. While the latter is very much concerned with the state of our own world, Stirton's low budget flick is more focused on escaping one quite unlike our own.

The mercs, led by Captain Morgen (Mike Mitchell) crash land on an inhospitable world after coming under fire in a surprise attack. Once marooned, they learn that they are not alone. An unknown malevolent force is out to get them, growing stronger with every victim that it takes. Cue a lot of shouting, gunfire, and some unsightly demises (followed by more gunfire).

Stirton is the director of the award-winning 2020 short film Wrong Time, Wrong Space, but The Planet is a more exhilarating and muscle-bound affair. This is as much an all-out action film as it is a horror, blending scares and a carnal number of explosions to create a silly and somewhat inventive space horror. Not an easy one to seek out, but a unique treat to savour if you can find it.
