10 Best Horror Movies Set On Halloween Night

1. Halloween (1978)

The original and the best. Nothing can knock John Carpenter's iconic all hallows' eve horror Halloween off the top spot as the movie of autumn's scariest night. It's got synth, it's got the ultimate scream queen (Jamie Lee Curtis) and it's got one of the most feared villains of horror movie history.

Michael Myers first reared his immortal head in Carpenter's 1978 indie classic, sporting nought but a kitchen knife, a boiler suit and an inside-out William Shatner mask.

Sending the spooks up us right from the pumpkin-and-keys opening credits, the film features not one but two Halloween nights, the first in 1963, when Myers puts an end to his sister in their Haddonfield home, and the other 15 years later when he manages a daring escape from "high security" psychiatric confinement and returns home to put the blade into a few more undeserving victims.

This is the film that started it all, putting an indelible stamp on the holiday and creating an iconic slasher villain who has only just been sent to his grave the year before last. But, as sure as another Halloween night will dawn, the Shape will almost certainly return.
