There’s low-budget, then there’s no budget, and then there’s whatever 2012’s comedy horror effort Kill Me Now qualifies as.

Drawing its cast from a range of Internet comedians including many former Cracked.com contributors and members of cult troupe Good Neighbour, wbo would go on to write for Saturday Night Live, this intentionally corny and wildly cheap slasher spoof ends up a surprisingly funny and inventive good time despite—or perhaps because of—its limited financing.

Featuring the least believable bear attack in cinema history, the flick follows a set of “teens” who the film repeatedly notes are easily in their twenties as they continually elude a serial killer who is desperate to embody the suave evil of slasher villains but is thwarted at every turn by reality. Every elaborate trap and complex plan which would succeed in a typical horror backfires in hilarious fashion for this killer, eventually leaving him with no option but walking into the party and trying to hack his way through the revellers. It’s one of many surreally comic sights from this underrated gem, which is worth seeking out despite its modest origins.
