9. Mr. Boogedy
Weird things start happening when a family moves into a new house, and it's up to the kids to convince their parents that the home is haunted by the dastardly Mr. Boogedy.
The titular entity of Mr. Boogedy doesn't actually show his face until the last few minutes. Yet, he makes up for his lack of screen time with his theatricality and appearance. His face looks like someone put Hamburger Helper in a blender and he shoots green lasers from his finger. Is it stupid? Yes. Does that make it any less fun to watch? No.
While his theatrics work as some solid spectacle though, it would be incorrect to label him as scary. No, the real horror of Mr. Boogedy is the family itself.
Everything in this family is a bit. They are in the gag business, meaning they sell objects for practical joke and prank purposes. So, when the kids try to talk about anything serious, not only do their parents not believe them, but they treat it as a literal joke. Even breakfast becomes a gag. The mere thought of being stuck in a family like this until you can move out at eighteen is truly the scariest thing about the movie.
