10 Best James Bond Songs That Were REJECTED (And Why)

7. Blondie - For Your Eyes Only

Rejected because: They wanted to write it themselves

The OK-est Bond theme attached to the most "meh" Bond movie, there isn't a great deal, good or bad, that can really be said about Sheena Easton's For Your Eyes Only or the film that it goes with. Virtually the only thing of note about it is that Easton has the unique honour of actually physically appearing in the movie's opening credit sequence.

Easton was not the first choice for the gig, though. Instead producers at Eon had initially approached Blondie. The new wave rockers were then still at the peak of their stardom, following back-to-back US number one singles, and quickly set about writing a poppy synth-rock tune for the film.

Ultimately, however, Eon decided to go with a song written by the movie's composer Bill Conti. They offered it to Debbie Harry to perform solo without her Blondie bandmates, but, without the opportunity to sing the For Your Eyes Only that she had written with guitarist Chris Stein, Harry turned it down.

Blondie's wannabe Bond song was instead released on their underwhelming 1982 album The Hunter, the last before their acrimonious split. It might not be their best work, but it's got more muscle and energy than Easton's bland ballad and its rejection denied us the chance to see Debbie Harry weirdly appear instead of anonymous female silhouettes in the credits.
