10 Best Legacy Movie Sequels Ever

9. Scream (2022)

It could be argued that every Scream movie since the hit 1996 original is a legacy sequel to some degree, but none more so than its recent fifth instalment, which was released some eleven years after the events of Scream 4.

Set twenty-five years after the very first Woodsboro murders, Scream follows a group of friends who are targeted by a new Ghostface, and must join forces with long-time franchise survivors Sidney Prescott, Dewey Riley, and Gale Weathers to bring an end to the bloodshed.

Though on paper this sounds like a nothing new, the sequel's increased darkness and daring makes it a much more pronounced and mature affair than what came before, placing its characters in their toughest position yet whilst passing the baton to a new host of (un)lucky survivors.

The recent news that Neve Campbell won't be returning for Scream 6 only makes the sequel's brilliant twists and surprisingly neat finale that much more effective.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
